Who We Are
ICEC is a consortium of religious and secular organizations dedicated to ecological civilization. Its organizing partners are the Temple of Understanding, GreenFaith, the Forum of Religion and Ecology at Yale University, and the International Communities for the Renewal of the Earth, in consultation with the New York office of the United Nations Environmental Program.
Our Mission
The mission of ICEC is to facilitate a dialogue among the various sectors of society on ecological civilization, gather wisdom from this dialogue that will inspire and guide individual and social transformations, and lead in the transition to ecological civilization.
The Challenge of Civilizational Change
We face issues of poverty, security and ecology that are intractable within our current civilizational framework. A new framework is emerging, that of ecological civilization. Within a civilizational period change is incremental, but when a civilization changes everything changes at once over a relatively short period of time. The civilization that is emerging will be as different from the modern period as the modern was from the medieval. It will not be defined by industry, markets, materialism and globalism, but rather by ecology, culture, sufficiency, reciprocity, localities and the sacredness of Earth community.
Participation in ICEC
Both individuals and organizations may become Members of ICEC. Membership signifies commitment to the realization of ecological civilization and supports the activities of ICEC. Please visit our blog or facebook page to begin or continue a conversation with us.
